A full sized plywood canoe, lovely and stable
on the water for family or solo use. Ideal for
camping with ample space to stow gear, or great
for just messing about.
We have just finished building this, so it's
only been on the water to try it
out. It has two seats, offset for
improved performance with one or two
people, and a yoke in the middle for portage.
One person can carry this canoe on their
shoulders, and it is easily carried on a car
roof rack as shown. It weighs around 25kg.
The gunwhales, seats and yoke are
of pine, and the birch plywood is "water and
boil proof" exterior 4mm ply. You can see
from the photos, this is a very decent sized
boat, and it'll take two people comfortably with
room for luggage, including long poles, so ideal
for fishing. All my boats have this
feature, and it does sometimes come in very
handy!
Please ring and arrange to try the
canoe before you bid.You will be
delighted with its stability and ease of
paddling. We are near Melton Mowbray in
Leicestershire, and the phone number here is
01664 434689. You can e-mail me on jclohesy@gmail.com
. We have home-made paddles for sale as
well.
The upright photo gives you an idea of the
dimensions of the boat - the seats are designed
to take two people, facing down in relation to
the picture, or for a single person facing up to
give the best weight distribution for the
boat.
Reason for sale? Need the money...
We've made a fair number of these canoes -
they are not difficult to build yourself, have a
look at my website www.birchcanoes.com for
ideas. You are welcome to get some ideas from my
site and build your own.
On 18-Aug-06 at 22:25:16 BST,
seller added the following information:
A couple of points to add:
The canoe is large enough for a small
family, you could easily fit 2
adults and 2 small
children, we once had 5
large teenagers in a similar canoe, so
there's loads of space for gear if you go
camping, poles etc, you can even lie down full
length in the boat ( which is lovely, just
drifting down a quiet stretch of river)
Always wear a buoyancy aid
in a canoe. If you don't have one I will have to
insist that you buy one.. I can sell you a used
one or two, but you might prefer to buy your
own. I really don't want to sell the canoe to
anyone without a buoyancy aid, canoes are great
fun but its always wise to wear one.
I have 2 home-made wooden
paddles which I can sell to the
successful bidder, if you like. They would be
£20 each or £30 for the two, they are carved out
of a single piece of Finnish spruce and are
rather "home made" with character..( as is the
boat)
The photos don't show that the bottom of the
boat, inside and out, has been painted black, to
improve the resistance to scratches. The boat
itself has only been on the water once, for the
photos.
Finally, the river here is a bit swollen
after all the rain, but I really do want you to
try the boat before you finally decide it is for
you. If the river looks too high we can take the
canoe to a nearby lake. Looking forward to
meeting the successful bidder ! All the best
John
